Furniture Bonus 2026: how to save 50% on tables and chairs
Last updated: 13/10/2026
If you are renovating your home, you can recover 50% of what you spend on furnishing it. On a table and six chairs costing €2,000, this means €1,000 back through your income tax return.
Here is how it works, what you need to be eligible, and what you must do at the time of ordering.
In summary
| Deduction amount | 50% of the expenditure |
|---|---|
| Spending cap | €5,000 per property unit |
| Maximum savings | €2,500 |
| How it is recovered | 10 annual installments of equal amount (max €250/year) |
| Purchase deadline | December 31, 2026 |
| Indispensable requirement | Renovation started from January 1, 2025 |
| Reference legislation | Art. 16, para. 2 Law Decree 63/2013, extended by the 2026 Budget Law (Law 199/2025, art. 1, para. 22) |
⚠️ Unless extended, 2026 is the final year. From 2027, it will only be possible to continue deducting installments relating to expenses already incurred. If you have a renovation in progress and are putting off purchasing furniture, the window closes on December 31.
1. The requirement that really counts: the renovation
The Furniture Bonus is not independent. It is not enough to buy new furniture: you must have in progress, or have completed, a building renovation project for which you benefit from the IRPEF deduction provided for by art. 16-bis of the TUIR.
The timeline rule, which is the one most often mistaken: for purchases made in 2026, the works must have started from January 1, 2025. And the start date of the works must precede the date of the furniture purchase — not the other way around.
It is not necessary, however, for the renovation expenses to have already been paid before those for the furniture: the start of the works is what counts.
Which works qualify for the bonus
- extraordinary maintenance on individual residential property units
- restoration and conservative rehabilitation
- building renovation
- reconstruction or restoration of a property damaged by calamitous events, if a state of emergency has been declared
- ordinary maintenance only if carried out on common condominium parts
Ordinary maintenance on a single home alone (painting, replacing floors, repairs) does not qualify for the bonus.
The bonus is also available to those who benefit from the Sismabonus and, for expenses from July 1, 2020, the Superbonus. It also applies if you have opted for credit assignment or invoice discounting for the renovation.
How to prove the start date of works
- with administrative permits or notifications required by building regulations (CILA, SCIA, building permit);
- with the prior notification to the ASL (Local Health Authority), where mandatory;
- for works under "free building" rules, with a substitute declaration of affidavit pursuant to art. 47 of Presidential Decree 445/2000.
In the case of a property purchased in a building entirely renovated by a construction company or housing cooperative, the "start date of works" refers to the date of purchase or assignment of the property.
2. The €5,000 cap and how it is calculated
The limit is €5,000 per individual property unit, including outbuildings, regardless of how much you spent on the renovation and the number of people participating in the expense.
If you renovate multiple properties, the bonus applies to each one. The limit is multiplied by the number of property units subject to intervention.
Pay attention to the plafond already consumed. If you have already purchased furniture in 2025 using the bonus for the same renovation project, in 2026 the cap is reduced by the amount already used. Example: €1,000 of furniture purchased in 2025 → in 2026, €4,000 of the plafond remains available.
A few practical calculations
| Expenditure | Total deduction | Recoveries every year for 10 years |
|---|---|---|
| €1,500 | €750 | €75 |
| €3,000 | €1,500 | €150 |
| €5,000 | €2,500 | €250 |
| €8,000 | €2,500 (calculated only on €5,000) | €250 |
The deduction reduces the IRPEF owed: to fully utilize it, you must have sufficient gross tax liability. If your IRPEF for a year is lower than the annual installment, the excess is lost — it is neither refundable nor carried forward to the following year. This is a point to verify with your accountant if you have low income or many existing deductions.
3. What you can purchase
New furniture intended to furnish the property undergoing renovation:
- tables and chairs ✅ (our products fully qualify)
- beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bookcases, desks
- nightstands, sideboards, sofas, armchairs
- mattresses
- lighting fixtures
Transport and assembly costs are also deductible, provided they are paid using the same traceable methods required for the goods. Therefore, the shipping costs you pay to us are also included in the deductible plafond.
Not eligible: doors, flooring (e.g., parquet), curtains and drapes, and furnishings in general.
What about household appliances?
Large new household appliances are also included, provided they meet a minimum energy class: A for ovens, E for washing machines, washer-dryers, and dishwashers, F for refrigerators and freezers. If there is no mandatory energy label for that type yet, the purchase is still eligible by keeping a statement from the seller certifying the lack of obligation.
For ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers, electric hobs, washer-dryers, and washing machines, notification to ENEA via the portal detrazionifiscali.enea.it is provided. Failure to transmit or late transmission does not lead to the loss of the deduction, but it is best to do so.
Please note that the €5,000 cap is cumulative between furniture and appliances: if you plan to purchase both, plan how to distribute the plafond.
4. How to pay (this is where the bonus is lost most often)
Only traceable payments are allowed:
- ✅ bank or postal wire transfer (ordinary)
- ✅ credit card
- ✅ debit card / ATM
- ❌ cash — leads to loss of the benefit
- ❌ bank checks
Regarding wire transfers: the “special” one is not needed
For the Furniture Bonus, the specific wire transfer for renovations, which is subject to withholding tax by banks and the Post Office, is not necessary. An ordinary wire transfer is sufficient.
In the payment purpose (causale), indicate:
Payment for order no. [number] of [date]
Pazzo Design Srls – Via Polesana per Rovigo 35, 45026 Lendinara (RO)
Tax ID/VAT No. 01629480292
Purchase with installment financing
The deduction also applies if you purchase with financing, provided that the financial company pays the supplier using the traceable methods indicated above and that you keep a copy of the payment receipt. The date that counts is that of the payment made by the finance company.
5. What to do at the time of ordering
This is the point where we can help you — and where, if you make a mistake, it is no longer recoverable.
- Enter the correct billing details when ordering, including the Tax ID (codice fiscale). Once issued, the invoice cannot be modified.
- The invoice holder must be the same person who is claiming the renovation deduction and who makes the payment. If the wire transfer comes from an account held by your husband but the invoice is in your name, the deduction may be challenged during an audit.
- If the expenses are incurred by multiple people (for example, two spouses), both must be listed as holders of the spending documents to the extent that they intend to split the deduction.
- No particular wording is needed on the invoice. The wording “Bonus Mobili” that some shops add is a commercial practice, not a regulatory obligation: its absence does not prejudice anything.
If you have doubts about the data to enter, write to us before completing the order at support@pazzodesign.it or call us at 388 2449436. Fixing the data beforehand takes a minute; after the invoice is issued, it cannot be done.
6. Documents to keep
Keep them until the expiration of the assessment terms (normally December 31 of the fifth year following the declaration):
- invoice or receipt with nature, quality, and quantity of the goods purchased. The receipt showing the purchaser's Tax ID, together with this information, is equivalent to the invoice;
- proof of payment: receipt of the wire transfer, transaction receipt with card, account statement documentation;
- renovation documentation: building permit or substitute declaration, ASL notification if due;
- for appliances: energy label or product sheet, and any receipt of ENEA notification.
7. How to obtain the deduction
By indicating the expenses in the income tax return of the year following the purchase: model 730 or model Redditi PF. The deduction is then automatically distributed into 10 annual installments of equal amount.
For a purchase made in 2026, the first installment is recovered with the declaration presented in 2027.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get the bonus without doing renovation work?
No. This is the requirement on which there are no exceptions: the Furniture Bonus is always linked to an subsidized building recovery project.
I started work in 2024. Can I buy furniture in 2026?
No. For 2026 purchases, the work must have started from January 1, 2025, onwards. If you started in 2024, the useful window was 2025.
Must I have finished the work before buying?
No, the work can still be in progress. It only needs to have already started.
Does it also apply to a second home?
Yes, provided it is a residential property subject to subsidized intervention and you are the holder of the relevant deduction.
Does it apply to an office or a shop?
No. The relief applies to residential properties.
If I return the product using the right of withdrawal?
The deduction follows the actual expense incurred: in case of return and refund, the expense ceases to exist and should not be deducted. If you have already filed the declaration, talk to your accountant.
Can I combine the Furniture Bonus and the appliance bonus?
Not on the same cost portion of the same item. If you have already obtained the voucher from the Ministry of Enterprises for an appliance, you cannot also use the Furniture Bonus on the same expenditure.
An honest warning
This information is updated as of the date indicated at the top of the page and is for purely informational purposes. It does not constitute tax advice, and we are not an authorized intermediary.
Legislation on building bonuses changes with every budget law, and the practice of the Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) evolves with circulars and responses to requests for interpretation. Before relying on the deduction to plan a major expenditure, verify your position with your accountant or a CAF: only they can assess whether your building intervention is eligible, whether you have sufficient IRPEF capacity, and how to distribute the deduction.
